September Update

 September Community Service Hours: 3

The month of September was on the more challenging side due to Hurricane Ida, but it was an interesting month as well due to all of the mixed pandemic and hurricane chaos that was taking place in New Orleans and the surrounding parishes. Due to hurricane Ida, my family had evacuated, and we had to remain evacuated for nearly the entire month due to major loss of power for an extended time and minor house damage due to wind and rain. Although the hurricane put a halt to the city of New Orleans, I was still able to volunteer one day with Second Harvest Food Bank in Elmwood upon returning to the city. While I'm used to going there actively since high school, it was a great feeling knowing that I was helping victims within the city I am from and that I still reside in. While I enjoyed the virtual side of class, I am happy that none of my fellow classmates or faculty sustained severe damages that would prolong their return to both their homes and campus. Having attended a different university for my undergraduate studies, Tulane's rapid response towards Hurricane Ida made me appreciate and gain more value towards the school's community that I am part of now. I gained a new respect for the school's protocols that are in place for their students because it shows the effort and attention that the university gives to the well being and safety of their students. Overall, September in my eyes was a great month to learn from in both the academic and natural disaster aspects.
